All Wars are Based on Lies…
A Senate Committee has released a finding that the Bush administration twisted intelligence prior to the Iraq war. The committee noted that claims of an Iraq-Al Qaeda tie were false as were Iraq’s willingness to provide WMD’s to terrorist groups. The release put the left in a frenzy, proclaiming calls for war crimes and impeachment.True, the Bush claims have proven to be false and it is fact the Iraq war was executed on false pretenses to some extent. Yet, people are surprised? History teaches us that we should not be surprised and in fact should have expected many of the claims to be false. Looking at the past, all wars of this nation from the Civil War to the Iraq War, have been executed under some form of false pretense.
Lincoln used the desire of keeping the Union as one, for the use of force against the Confederacy. He knew that the people would not support a war to end slavery, yet Lincoln wasted little in implementing the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing the slaves, exposing the true reason for the Civil War. Franklin Roosevelt pushed Japan to the brink of war, ignored clear signs of an attack and then proclaimed shock after Pearl Harbor. Even in 1941 does anyone really believe that a Japanese attack force could sail across the Pacific undetected? Roosevelt needed the attack to get into a necessary war.
Korea and Vietnam were both fought with the understanding it was a war against communist China the USSR, both were false.
Sadly, such tactics are not limited to war; it is done for global warming, poverty, children and most of all campaigns. The present, past and future are, were and will be again be full of politicians, twisting the facts to implement their agenda. It is up to each individual to decipher the facts and make a rational, educated decision. We must understand that politicians are selling an idea and therefore they offer no facts, it is a fact of life.

A few years ago, I would have disagreed with you. But now that the Bush administration has all but admitted that they misread the evidence, its obvious that they had to lie to get us to go along with this mess. I, for one, feel betrayed. It was one of the few times when I, like most americans, thought long and hard about the war issue. It really angers me that we were taken advantage of by the government. I’m hoping that Obama will help curb this kind of behavior.
It seems like such a daunting task to present such truth as this when people are so comfortable with what they want to believe to be true. I love your point that we shouldn’t be surprised, I have had many recent conversations with people who are “catching on” right about now. I truly hope that someday we figure how to learn from our past. Thanks for this post.
Interesting. One day we may make time for an individual educated decision. I blame the economic model, politicians as you say literally do sell an idea. But where did they get this idea that there was ever something to sell? Good read.
