This is the End…My Hillary the End…

Published by aebersole under Current News Edit This

My apologies to the Doors, but this could be the end for HRC. The Democratic Rules and Credentials Committee is meeting tomorrow; the topic of Michigan and Florida is sure to come up. It seems Hillary will not get her way and the full delegates will not be seated. The question then becomes what next for Hillary? The courts is one avenue and of course the Dems can thank Al Gore for that precedent. The other option is to nuke the convention, promote demonstrations and create chaos, that seems unlikely at least officially.

At the risk of being a rumor weed, word is that someone (mostly the McCain camp) has a tape of Michelle Obama giving a sermon at Trinity United. Of course this is just a rumor, but if true the big October surprise might come from the GOP this year. I would stress that this is purely rumor, but it sure makes things fun.

What the…Is Going On?

Published by aebersole under Current News Edit This

Before I head off to bed, I was wondering if we can now cancel the 2008 Presidential campaign as being one focused on the serious issues? Really the last few hours have been a slap and hair pulling contest between McCain and Obama over when was the last time Obama was in Iraq? Yes sir, these two guys are delivering a new kind of political, so new that in fact they are old.

Mixed Signals

Published by aebersole under Current News Edit This

Gallup has released a poll asking a number of questions concerning gas and high prices. The signals the America people are sending, are well confusing.

People oppose rationing of gas, but support gas price controls. The fact is rationing is born out of price controls, which will further reduce supply. Even more dumbfounding is the fact they oppose removing the federal gas tax, which again would lower cost.

The other interesting twist is the now support of domestic drilling, something that was not true just a year ago.

There are some encouraging signals in this poll, but the fact a majority supports price controls is bothersome. One only needs to look at the past to see the disaster created by artificial price controls; it is ugly.

McClellan is Right…Kind of…

Published by aebersole under Current News Edit This

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan has released a new tell all book; What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington Culture of Deception. I have not and will not read the book, simply because I find such pieces of literature to be nothing more than glorified National Enquirer articles. However, something did catch my eye this time around; McClellan’s assertions of the Iraq War and the consequent butchering of him led by the conservatives.

Karl Rove told FOX News Wednesday night that McClellan sounded more like a “left wing” blogger and that wasn’t the Scott he knew. Rush Limbaugh has declared it is the culture of Washington that forces otherwise conservative Republicans to alter their actions in an ill fated attempt to be liked. Certainly there are some questionable accusations in the book. McClellan makes an insinuation that a meeting between Rove and Scooter Libby was suspicious and came at the time of the Valerie Plame’s leak story. First, McClellan has no way of knowing what was said and second Plame’s identity was never in question and no law was broken.

Pushing aside the obvious publisher’s filler, McClellan does dive into the Iraq War and it is here where I swing from questioning McClellan to scratching my head at conservatives.

If there is one clear notion concerning the Bush administration it is the fact Iraq was handled poorly, so much so it teetered on incompetence. The mistakes are clear or more fittingly, few people were mistaken.  First there was the insistence of Vice President Cheney that the U.S would be greeted as liberators and second was the egotistical, unwavering personality of Donald Rumsfeld, who micro-managed the military from the Washington. These two painfully wrong and foolish personalities created chaos in Iraq. It wasn’t until Rumsfeld was shown the door and Cheney was regulated to the Vice President’s role, a figure head, things turned for the better.

Gen. Petraeus was allowed to be a general by new Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the mistake of alienating thousands of former Iraqi military was corrected. The United States approached Iraq as if all Iraqis were fundamentalist, when in fact only a small percentage number are; the fact is most are capitalist and pick sides based on the largest paycheck. Americans also realized that the toughest kid on the block carries the day, something South Phily boys could have told them. When the military began wiping out the fundamentalist the average Iraqi felt safe and began taking up the fight, against Al Qaeda.

When these corrections were made the situation in Iraq stabilized. So, I ask why bash every person, including McClellan, who notes mistakes were made, the administration itself has admitted this with their drastic changes since 2006.

So why are conservative so defense? The reason is something I call the “Crazy Uncle” syndrome.

Yes, Uncle Fred might be crazy, but only I can call him that, when others do I become defensive and attack that person. Being right or wrong doesn’t matter, only the fact the attack is uncomfortable. That is case here, it is perfectly fine for Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh to question President Bush, but when the attacks are coming outside the family their first instinct is to defend and destroy.

Sometimes the facts are the facts and in this case the fact is clear and McClellan is on sound footing saying so.

McCain Speech

Published by aebersole under Current News Edit This

McCain is currently delivering a foreign policy speech in Denver. I hope to have exerts from that speech up soon. ‘

It seems the general election campaign has started with Obama and McCain camps moving forward…Hey, someone tell Hillary that the guys have moved on…

Update: I never received anything from the campaign, but it is clear McCain will continue to keep this debate in the foreign affairs arena. Now, ABC News is reporting that Al Qaeda is about to release a call for the use of weapons of mass destruction against their enemies. Such tapes are certain to benefit McCain, they should also start the endless roll call of those who believe UBL is a creation of the incompetent Bush administration. At the worse an actual attack could be coming, that of course in the grotesque world of politics would be seen as McCain positive.

McCain Keeping Busy…

Published by aebersole under Current News Edit This

Sen. John McCain has had a busy few days. First he released his medical records and was given a clean bill of health. Big surprise; if there was something wrong the nation would have already known. Second, he is meeting with a trio of wantabee vice-presidential nominees, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Mitt Romney. The early money is on Romney, who has the potential to bring home the conservatives. Lastly, McCain started the backtracking process from controversial minster Rev. John Hagee of Texas. Among some of the more idiotic comments attributed to Hagee is calling the Roman Catholic church a whore and noting that Hitler was driving the Jews to the promise land under God’s guidance.

It certainly has been an interesting week for John McCain, even without an official opponent.

Let the Fighting Begin

Published by aebersole under Current News Edit This

After so many weeks of both Barack Obama and John McCain pontificating about civil campaigns, both have gone on the attack.

The center of the bickering is Iran and negotiations without conditions. Back in July of 2007 Obama said he would negotiate with Iran without conditions. Since that moment his opponents have jumped on the opportunity; including Hillary Clinton. Continue Reading »

Gettin Nasty Already…

Published by aebersole under 1 Edit This

Barack Obama isn’t even the official Democratic nominee and already things are getting nasty. Obama has spent the day defending himself against an attack from President Bush, despite his name never coming up.

Bush spoke of appeasement and Nazi Germany (McCain agreed), creating a fire storm of objections from Democrats. Most using the party line of politics stops at the waters’ edge. An interesting twist considering recent statements from Jimmy Carter and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s gallop to Syria.

It would be interesting to ask American’s what they are more tired off, “dirty politics” or political parties that engage in the act and then cry foul when they are the victims?

Is He Really an Anchor

Published by aebersole under Current News Edit This

Is it time for this guy to give up his show? Perhaps not, but at least call it what it is; a liberal, biased show. Hey Keith it is fine to continue to express your objection to Bush, McCain or whomever, just stop pretending you are something other than a liberal and stop insulting our intelligence.

So the next time someone asked you, Mr. Olbermann or Obamann, or whatever your name is, to host an election night special, do us all a favor and tell them NO! If you want to rant and rave in such a manner, join Rush Limbaugh on the radio or Sean Hannity and call your show what it is, an opinion, personal biased show…Click and watch at your own risk.
BTW: I am sure Air America has an opening.
