Rev. Wright, Aiding McCain?

Of Course He is Smiling

It is becoming apparent that John McCain’s prime asset is in fact Barack Obama’s ever prevalent liability; Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Rev. Wright stormed the stage this past week, in what many thought would be the rehab tour, swinging, preaching and thumping on Obama. First, Wright told Bill Moyer, that Obama is just doing what he has to do and he, Wright, is doing what he needs to do. In essence, Barack is being a politician, skirting the topic, riding the fence, while Wright, stands strong on his beliefs and teachings.

On Monday, Wright continued swinging at the National Press Club. Most of his words were a mere repeat of his sermons, which many of Obama’s backers declared were just clips taken out-of-context, well apparently not.

First, Wright reaffirmed his admiration of Louis Farrakhan. The following is Wright’s response when asked about Farrakhan

“So what I think about him, as I’ve said on Bill Moyers and it got edited out, how many other African-Americans or European-Americans do you know that can get one million people together on the mall?  He is one of the most important voices in the 20th and 21st century.  That’s what I think about him.

I’ve said, as I said on Bill Moyers, when Louis Farrakhan speaks, it’s like E.F. Hutton speaks, all black America listens.  Whether they agree with him or not, they listen.

Now, I am not going to put down Louis Farrakhan anymore than Mandela would put down Fidel Castro.  Do you remember that Ted Koppel show, where Ted wanted Mandela to put down Castro because Castro was our enemy?  And he said, “You don’t tell me who my enemies are.  You don’t tell me who my friends are.”

Wright continued on the attack, suggesting that the U.S. government is responsible for the AIDS virus and even hinted that African-Americans and Whites should have separate education, because as he noted “they are different.”

Watching Wright’s performance was a true presentation of his thinking. He is so radical that drives his thoughts and words, regardless of the consequences to his once beloved parishioner Barack Obama. There is another line of thinking that some have suggested which goes beyond exposing one’s soul. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich suggested that Wright is making a conscience attempt to destroy the Obama campaign, in what has become a nasty divorce and seemingly getting worse.

No matter the reason, the end result is an Obama campaign, once filled with the hope of erasing the racial lines, now becoming the flash point for racial tensions. The Obama campaign is hemorrhaging profusely, breathing new life into Hillary Clinton and keeping the Democratic primary in chaos.

In the end, the only winner is John McCain, who continues traveling the nation presenting his ideals, unchallenged. He is looking more and more like the statesman he proclaims to be.
