McCain Looks for Civil Campaign
John McCain continues to take the moral high ground. Saturday, he completed his week long tour around the nation with a speech at Yavapai County Courthouse, AZ. Yavapai is home to Barry Goldwater, founder of the modern day conservative movement.
McCain asked for a campaign mirroring a debate between friends. He noted even Barry Goldwater understood the importance of being an American first.
“The friendship of Barry Goldwater and Mo Udall (Democratic Senator from AZ) was based in their mutual respect for each other’s character, devoted service to the state they loved, and patriotism. It seems antiquated these days, but however much they might have disagreed with each other’s policy views, neither man ever had any doubt that the other acted at all times out of devotion to Arizona and the United States,” said McCain.
This has been the theme of McCain’s campaign; seeking to debate ideas, instead of tossing mud.
“It is more than appropriate, it is necessary that even in times of crisis, we fight among ourselves for the things we believe in,” said the Senator. “It is not just our right, but our civic and moral obligation.” If McCain wins the election using this approach, it could mark the end of campaigns based on scare tactics than ideals.
