Pick a Veep any Veep

Published by aebersole at 12:24 pm under Current News Edit This

It is time to play Let’s Pick a Veep, at least for John McCain. So let the guessing begin and let me take a shot.

In no particular order, here it goes.

1. Condoleeza Rice- I have my doubts she would even consider the role, Ms. Rice does not appear the type that enjoys campaigning. I see her happily exiting stage right and entering the private sector. Secondly, she is a foreign affairs gal, McCain seems to have that covered.

2. Mitt Romney- He seems to be warming up to the idea and he looks good on camera. He may, may help bring the conservatives home. Remember Romney was never the favorite child of many conservatives, just a better choice than McCain.

3. Kay Bailey Hutchinson- A good southern gal, but McCain is going to win Texas anyhow and besides two senators on the same ticket, not a great idea.

4. Haley Barbour- Mississipi Gov. certainly has done a tremendous job in the Katrina recovery.

5. Tim Pawlenty- Minnesota Gov. Fits right in with McCain’s right of center politics. Is a young politician with some national appeal.

6. Jeb Bush- Was wildly popular as the Florida Governor, a must have state for McCain in the fall. He brings youth and a moderate stance on many issues. His biggest hurdle is of course his last name. Another Bush on the ticket might not settle well with many voters.

7. Lindsey Graham- The South Carolina Senator seems an unlikely choice, but he has worked closely with McCain in past and it would be someone McCain trust.

8. Mel Martinez- The Florida Senator has numerous positives working for him. He would bring some diversity to the ticket, he is from Florida and his Hispanic appeal is strong. His downfall is the same as McCain, the right does not like him.

9. Sara Palin- Who? Exactly, she is the Gov. of Alaska, but raise your hand if you knew that. Certainly she would bring some diversity, but very little name recognition

10. Joe Lieberman- Yes, I know this is unlikely, but the fact is until someone is standing beside McCain his name is going to be keep coming up.
